I had been wanting to catch and identify this fish for about 64 years. Not this specific fish, I think this one is only 1 year old. I was talking about one of his ancestors. My older brother and sister and I (about 5 yrs old) were sitting in the mountain streamlet and saw and tried to catch this fish that darted around on the bottom. We never caught it. This 1 inch fish from last year, is the size that we saw so long ago. Up until last year we had always spotted them on the bottom ins still water. This year (2013) we used a net and swept it through some riffles and caught larger fish. The bottom had a thin covering of silt on it this year. And we were not able to spot any fish sitting on the bottom.
In August 2012 I was surprised to find any fish because Hurricane Irene had turned the streamlet into a raging torrent in August 2011.
