I will be purchasing a seine in the next day or two and was wondering what is the best mesh size for a seine. I will probably get a 12' - 15' (after I check my regulations and make sure I can!) and hammer one side into the shore walk out and around and then back in, hoping it will work.. LOL.

So I guess, what size mesh should I look for. I have seen 1/8", 1/4" or 3/8". I know the one I currently have is like 1/2" or 3/4"

1/8" is the only way to go unless you don't mind killing and picking countless YOY minnows from your net.
I can't stress the importance of 1/8" mesh enough.

I was going to say, I have one now that is bigger, but have not used it as the fish would go right through and I have been afraid to use it for the reason you state.

So the 1/8th is the best size? will this still catch some of the bug larvae in the water as well?

Yup...1/8" is all around best. It's not a reliable larvae collector unless you're talking about dragon and dobsonfly in my neck of the woods at least.
