What is the largest central mudminnow you've seen? Largest for me was a 5 inch TL male (had the fluorescent green anal fin) that came up in a bait container. I kept it for a while but it found a way out of the tank :(. I always hear about 6"+ females but have never seen. What's the largest you've seen?

3" or so, not huge. Welcome to the forum. We need more Canadians and Ontarians.

I currently have two 4" TL mudminnows but do recall getting some 5-6" ones when growing up in bait containers as well.

I do not know if mine are males or females (how do you sex them?)

Thanks for the welcome :)

NVCichlids, are you on MFK/AquaMojo/Waterwolves? I was Mattimeo/Xiao on those forums, I think I was on here a long time ago (6+ years ago) but my account no longer exists O_o.

You can sex them (central mudminnows anyways) by the length of the anal fin. The male's anal fin when closed will extend almost to the very edge of the caudal peduncle at the base of the caudal fin. The female's will be a lot shorter. During breeding season, the male's anal fin (and sometimes other fins) get an iridescent green/blue tinge, almost like a breeding male bowfin.

No, never a member. I am a member of cichlids.com and planetcatfish.

Books should be able to answer this question for you and I'm not sure this is worthy of a brand new thread. Maybe next time questions like this could be added to existing threads?
