Could you help me identify this little fish?
Thanks!

Sculpin (Cottus sp.) of some sort. I am not familiar with your area - sorry I am not much help past that.

Added: The best/easiest way to tell the difference between the darters and sculpin is to look at the dorsal. Notice that the sculpin has a short first portion of the dorsal, while the rear dorsal is very long. The dorsal fins on darters will both be small.

I found this guy in a really small creek far away from any lakes. I didn't know sculpins could be found in small creeks.
Thank you.

most sculpins that i find tend to be in the smaller creeks. im guessing that it is most likely a mottled sculpin. perhaps next time take a photo on site of the fish for IDing purposes. i say that only because you thought this was a darter and not a sculpin. im not familiar with any fish in your area as being special concern or endangered. but its good practice to know what fish you are taking just in case! i have no success with keeping sculpin in tanks as alot of members that ive read on here. they are a tough species usually relying on cold well oxygenated faster flowing waters as well as a supply of good foods.ex blackworms, small fish, bloodworms ect.

Yes, these sculpins are quite common in Ontario and legal as bait fish.
