I'm leaning towards bluegill. It has large and pointy pectoral fins. The mouth looks small to me.

That one is a tough call from the pictures. But I lean towards bluegill too, especially if it has obvious banding, and anything like a dark spot in the rear of the dorsal.

No dark spot at the base of the dorsal.

Even with no spot I still think BG, although some version of green sunfish can't be ruled out (yeah, the Irate Mormon rule again).

Yeah, it still looks bluegill, the body shape is about right for that age.

Find a better camera. I can not be more specific that sunfish. Couple shots seem to show yellow pelvic fins (not typical bluegill trait). Man, I seem rude on my replies of late. Please forgive, just lazy.

I hear ya. I have better camera, but my PC has upload issues at the moment. I'll post again as it grows and I get my PC fixed. Thanks everyone for the input.

more info: Found him land locked at a stream. Theres hasn't been much rain, so the stream and the lake that feeds it are low.
