1 year and 286 post ago I joined the NANFA forum as a guy who could do nothing more than identify the 4 main sport fish in my area. (Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Pike, Different types of Trout) Now thanks to NANFA I can identify shiners darters, sunfish, even stuff that isn't native to my area or even my country! I still have whole lot to learn though. Thanks to you helpful people I have began dipnetting and exploring the local waters. I used to fish like a madman and if I didn't catch anything I'd just keep going, now if I don't catch anything I'll start dipnetting or flipping over rocks to see what I can find. In September I will probably start paying my dues and become a member of NANFA. So thanks everyone by helping I.D my posts which often had no pictures, answering my questions and thank you for teaching me so much!Posted Image I would like to hear your stories about how NANFA helped or changed you.

Well it sure is nice to read a post with some positive energy. From a lot of them lately you would think we were all fire breathing dragons.
NANFA has been a big help to me as well, but not as much as the four other guys that put this forum together who I had met on Aquatic Predators. They saw a need for a native fish forum, and introduced me to NANFA. That's how I got to where I am at today. Drunk, tired and mean....

NANFA helped me as well.

When I was new to Nanfa I more or less mainly thought of gamefish and panfish. I though all smaller fish in my area were shiners and that most shiners were the same.

Now due to NANFA I know small fish is much more than just shiners and I care more about the little guys than the big guys. I also let me see through the "trout blindness" (or bass blindness, or whatever) that most people from casual anglers to avid professionals have where they see the water only for the gamefish ignoring the whole ecosystem that supports them. Thanks to NANFA I see the little fish as an important building block in the ecosystem as a whole that needs as much protection and support as any other fish do.

plus they are fun to catch

Ya, lately there has been a lot or negative energy towards the moderators, overall they're doing a pretty good job keeping the forum organised and running smoothlyPosted Image . I used to have some serious trout/bass blindness too.
