Has anyone ever tried growing Brasenia schreberi in an aquarium? Seems like it would be a nice, compact version of a waterlily if it could get some strong light. I know several members have talked about growing it in ponds and observing it in the wild but I can't find much mention of it being grown inside under lights. If you have experience... what was your setup like and how did it grow?

I have a couple collected seedlings in my 10gal "pond scum inverts" tank that are growing so far in pond collected muck and leaf litter. I've seen plants reach for the surface then melt away before, so I am curious about its longer term prospects and whether it'll just die off come winter even if it is otherwise happy.

It should do fine if your lighting is strong enough. I agree it is a lovely plant. I've noticed that in an aquarium setting it doesn't make as much of the mucilaginous coating as it does in the wild. I've grown it in a soil-based substrate topped with fine gravel, so I imagine your substrate should be just fine.

Just ignore Mr. Irate...

To be honest, I have not seen seeds for sale. Your best bet would just be to google around the internet, perhaps a company that specializes in seed for ecological restoration might have them. Not sure if they would be able to ship overseas, though.
