Is there any way you could keep surf perch? Have no plans for it as of now, but would be nice sometime in the future. I saw a 125 gallon at an Oregon aquarium with 5 small surf perch. Also does any one know what kind of care these critters would require? Thanks-Logan

Amphistichus argenteus Barred surfperch is the species most common where I live. Also these are saltwater natives

They seem quite easy. Our marine lab on campus has a few(can't remember species). They are livebearing and the young are absolutely enormous. They had a batch of young but many of them were eaten by 2 plainfin midshipman also in the tank(which also made several 3-4 inch corbina dissapear!). They don't show much color but are active silvery fish.

I kept some for awhile quite a few years ago. They were easy, and I did have them reproduce. They were very undemanding. I fed them a lot of veggie flakes, frozen brine shrimp, and a home made paste food. I am not even shre which ones I had but they were fun.

I kept thm in the basement where it is pretty cool year round because there are not a lot of heat vents, and with my mother in law here we use the air conditioning a lot during the summer. I did see them in a chilled aquarium at Sea World here when they were still in Aroura Ohio. I am just guessing but I don't think they ever got above 70 here since I didn't use a heater. I kept mostly killifish and cichlids then and the cichlids always needed heaters.
