we viewed some new fish to me maybe 20 species.
rainbow darters were very common but we did find some
Etheostoma blenniodes
Etheostoma flabellare
Moxostoma breviceps
we viewed some 20 species and had a good time.
this was the only colored up male we found in 20 or so riffle passesit lost most of its bright yellow fin color real fast after netting.
all in all it was a good trip i was showed many new fish this trip out.
todd/crail told me what it was but there was just to many new fish.
i am gonna keep some of those
Logperch Darter Percina caprodes this fall if there still around that riffle.
i have fished this riffle for bait for some 20 years and never have seen these three fish there
todd has a new to me netting technique he called a reverse flip and pull were we would stand with the current behind us and flip the net out in front of us then move down stream kicking at the rocks to move the fish into the net this worked better then the way i have allways done it
by just dragging the net up stream into the riffle this one technique alone has creased my total number of species ten fold.
i learned allot this trip i never knew a riffle was so complex with micro areas of faster water and size of rock being so important.
todd/farmertodd also showed me how to set my new camera to shoot in the macro setting i like this new toy/tool its water proof and takes good pics for under $300.00
