OK everybody, I want to stock a 75G with Natives from the SW Pennsylvania area. I've done some research and these are the fish I'd like to keep (I think they are all native to my area not 100% sure):

I'd like to try and catch most if not all of these, if anyone around the greater Pittsburgh area needs a collecting buddy, I'm your guy. Never did any collecting and would love to learn.

Orangespotted Sunfish - group of 4-6 (will too few cause aggression issues?)
Blue Spotted Sunfish - group of 2-4
Blacknose Dace - group of 4-6
Logperch - 1
Creek Chub 1 or 2
Rosyface shiners - 4-6


This is just kind of a working list, but I'd really like to have some Orangespotted and the Blacknose dace.

Does this look overstocked? What about conspecific aggression or just plain aggression issues?

Tank is lightly stocked right now with some juvie Polypterus and a striped Raphael cat, which will be moved. Running 2 Emperor 400 HOB filters.

Give me your thoughts and suggestions, folks!

I like your idea of catching your own and starting with a tank that represents the area around 'your own backyard'. I think that you have a couple of problems... 1) Creek Chubs can become a very large fish and are very omnivorous (well, that's being polite... they eat everything and everybody). I would leave these out. 2) The Blue Spotteds are a pretty laid back fish, and although Orangespotteds are one of the calmest Lepomis sunfish, I would leave the Bluespots out of this tank. They will like it much better in a tank with no current and lots of plant cover. The other fish in your mix will make a great stream tank.

I also think you are a little overstocked, but these eliminations would solve that... and maybe even let you add another darter species...

If you ever find yourself out in the lehigh valley, I can help with the black nosed dace and tesselated darters. I used to catch a ton of them out of the Perkiomen creek. Im available during the day on wednesdays in august (I have a weird work schedule).

You need more darters. You'll like them.

Keep in mind, your Orange spots won't be so calm if a male decides to build a nest.
