Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find any of the 3 fish listed in the title in or near Punta Gorda or Port Charlotte Florida in the wild? My grandparents live in Punta Gorda and the next time I go down there I would like to go collecting for the 3 fish mentioned. I know they are found in brackish freshwater such as canals, ponds, lakes, streams, and ditches but I am not sure where. Thank you very much! Take care! Chris

I am not familiar with your area, but up here in South Carolina I have not found any permanent body of water that did not have those fish in it (I don't usually bother to distinguish between holbrooki and affinis, but at least one is always present). Have you looked and couldn't find them? They will be more abundant in marginal vegetation, but mostly I think due to predation. Any roadside drainage ditch will probably do.

Hi! Thank you very much! I actually live in Illinois. My grandparents are from Punta Gorda Florida. I have not actually looked yet. I went down there last year and never heard of either of the three fish until 3-4 months ago so I never did search. I just wanted to find out the best places to look for them or find someone that is from or near my grandparents area that knows where to look. Thanks again!

Hey Chris, long old post, however I am just curious if you managed to come to FL and catch some Mosqquitofish? I keep 2 or 3 tanks with Gambusia from different rivers, canals, and ponds to observe differences in colorations, etc. and I confess they never cease to amuse me. They are like bugs, every scoop with a small net you catch a handful minimum. So they are great feeders and other things. However to observe they simple diversity is fantastic.
