Hello
What temps is everyone culturing their scuds at? Think house temp of 72 might be bit to cool for them adding heater is easy enough but have no idea what temps they thrive at. .

I have them outside but pain to catch in numbers and would like to culture some in a 20 gallon long in sufficient numbers to add to my brown darters menu and find them interesting .

thanks

I am keeping a smaller variety (possibly Hyalla Azteca)in mid to high sixties and they are thriving. I had a larger variety prior to these that didn't do well at all in my system. I don't know why since water parameters and feeding were the same. The only thing I could figure was maybe they didn't like the cooler temperature which didn't make sense to me but I could come up with no other answers. Since it's difficult to know exactly what variety you have you may have to experiment a bit. Keep in mind, none tolerate real high temps and after a point will start to decline (most likely due to lower oxygen levels).

Gammarus like their water on the hard side, PH 7+, oxygen rich and low/no pollution. The amount and type of foods they have also play an imprortant role in their success. I feed mine dried leaves from my Oaks, plant clippings from plants in my other tanks, trout pellets and spirulina.

Thanks this was a lot of help and easy enough going to get Hyalla Azteca . I had some type (not sure what) from my yards floating frogbits as they seemed to enjoy the thick roots . They lived but did not breed when I bought some in . My temp was 72 degrees .

Its a pain to collect them from outside as to time consuming to only wind up with a few.

I plan to try to culture them as feeders for my brown darters but in truth they are pretty neat on their own and do enjoy watching them.

thanks
