Did my first field pic collecting today here in KY. I used a plastic critter keeper to house the fish temporally while I took pics then released them to same areas I caught them. Forgive me for not having names I'm still new to IDing so I'll try to ID them later on and post what I think they might be hopefully I can get feedback afterward letting me know if I'm right or not.

An excellent demonstration of the curved corner problem in a photo tank. An inch of clean sand on the bottom will help get the fish above the bottom curve. Then use a twig to prod him away from the vertical corners, and shoot quick. Eventually you'll want to make a square-cornered photo tank. Uland has a great DIY thread somewhere in here.

Thanks Gerald for the heads up on that, I thought it was a good idea to use it but as with many things when it comes to an actual application not so much. I'll look that thread up and see what I can rig up.

David, I'm sure you had a good time down on the Rockcastle. It's an excellent river. You can see some great coloration in the spring. Incase you aren't sure, I'll try to ID some of these.

Photo:
1 - Emerald Darter
2 - Female Rainbow Darter
3 & 4 - Juvenile Rock Bass?
5 - Snake (that one was easy)
6 - Northen Studfish
7 - Juvenile (sub) Male Rainbow Darter
8 - Stoneroller
9 - 11 - Male Bluebreast Darter
12 - 14 - Male Rainbow Darter

There are really some great darters and other fishes in the Rockcastle. Striped Darters are one of my favorites and they are common there. I'm thinking of going out this week, probably Thursday. I haven't decided on where yet.

I used the same tank for photos too until I broke mine. At petsmart, they sell a 5 gallon glass tank. I've been thinking of getting one for a photo tank, but I'm afraid it's too big. We need to get together and go out collecting before it's too cold.
