Anybody out there have experience using visible implant elastomer to tag something Clinostomus-like? I tried a little experiment with rosyside dace and the fish showed considerable scale loss during handling.

Thanks for you help,
Willy

Were they anesthitized? Did scale loss = mortality or delayed mortality? Chrosomus daces have been VIE tagged pretty successfully. I wonder if Gary Grossman at UGA has done that considering his broad and long history of research with observational studies of stream fishes including Clinostomous. They would seem to be good candidates.

Yes, they were anesthetized in MS-222. Scale loss = delayed mortality (70% in 7 days). Thanks for the encouragement and suggestion to look up Dr. Grossman.

While our fish are anesthestized we keep water supersatured with oxygen. O2 also use in recovery bath. Keeping exposure to MS-222 short also helpfull. We have also been using salt (NaCl) in both anesthesia and recovery baths.

What temperature did you handle fish at? Can it be manipulated?
