Yeah, even as much as I like to cling to the white on the fins, the rest of the fish really discredits that. I think Nate was simply saying that he understood why I was thinking brook trout, rather than saying it was a brook trout.

The nocomis is more interesting to me than the trout. I once caught some in the same general area and drainage. It took me forever to feel confident in what they were but I think they are the bigmouth chubs and that fish looks identical and that fits better than bluehead based on location. Here is a photo...

Brian - I'd say yours is a bluehead too. Bigmouth chub should have smaller and more numerous tubercles, extending farther down the snout, and few if any above/behind the eye. See drawings on page 263 in Freshwater Fishes of Viginia. Where is that fish from?

That fish was caught in the New River drainage at one of the collection sites for the NC convention a couple years back. We also caught redlip shiners, mountain redbelly dace, rosyside dace, and blacknose dace all at this site.
