Noturus exilis?

Hi,
I saw a watersnake eating what I believe to be a madtom last summer on a typical ozark river in southern Missouri. But I'm not entirely sure if any of the other species of Noturus can be this light colored?

When they're stressed, yes. While it's hard to be 100% sure, the body shape looks very chunky for typical N. exilis and there's subtle hints of the pattern of a Rabida. I'd suggest that it is more likely to be N. albater (or N. maydeni, depending on where you were). Very nice photo!

Cjr where did you take the picture at? We have Stonecats (Noturus Flavus) in some of the creeks draining into Table Rock Lake.
