Job Title: Marine Science Instructor and Social Media Intern

Agency: Sanibel Sea School

Location: Sanibel Island, FL

Description: Sanibel Sea School is seeking a Marine Science Instructor and Social Media Intern to assist with our programs. Marine Science Instructor and Social Media Intern is a full-time permanent position.

Responsibilities include: Assist with the planning and delivery of daily educational programs. Supervise young children (ages 6-13) in a variety of outdoor and marine environments. Foster an appreciation for marine ecosystems and encourage participants to practice ocean stewardship. Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of facilities and equipment. Develop and expand Sanibel Sea School’s social media presence. Utilize Facebook, Twitter, UTube, blogs, and other social media platforms to promote our mission of marine conservation through education, research and communication.

Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a 4 year bachelor’s program or recent college graduate with a background in Biology, Marine Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Early Childhood Education, Plant Biology, Nonprofit Management, or some combination thereof. Must be a strong and competent swimmer, comfortable in outdoor settings and physically capable of leading groups of children in a variety of natural environments. Must be capable of lifting 40 pounds and working in the sub-tropical conditions of Southwest Florida for eight-hour workdays. Candidates should have a strong desire to promote marine conservation by sharing your passion and knowledge of the natural world with others. Must be able to pass a National Criminal Background check. A successful applicant will have the ability to create social media strategy and deliver content through these channels on a regular basis.


Desired Qualifications: Have or be capable of obtaining certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding. Have a basic knowledge of the flora and fauna of Southwest Florida. Have an interest in writing short blogs on the topics of marine conservation.

Salary: A monthly stipend is provided. This position is a contract position. Housing is available upon request for approximately $300 per month.
