I've been having a lot of trouble identifying this fish. So for, my guess is that it's a hybrid. I caught it last year in a small private lake in southern illinois.

it appeared to be a warmouth.

Yep thats a War mouth. Caught 2 this past year on rod at ariver not far. Theyre a wild fish.The one we caught were to big for the tank. would like to get some smaller ones. if anybody now where to catch them in N.C. by Mooresville please let me know...

Thanks, that's really interesting. The warmouths I usually catch look like this. They are much darker with more obvious mottling. Is this a difference between male and female warmouths or just natural variations in coloration between individual fish?

A given warmouth can rapidly change the intensity of its color and pattern, in response to turbidity, lighting, cover, mood, etc. If you keep one in a tank you'll get to see this firsthand.

I think you got the wrong Mike, I never traded with anyone to get a warmouth. I can get all I need, and also I never traded with you, as I don't even know who you are.
