I thought of a way for NANFA members to inspire other people to like native fish. There's a website called ratemyfishtank.com where you post a picture of your aquarium, fish, invertebrate, etc. Then people go on the website and judge the picture, rating it out of 10. If we post pictures of native fish on there (instead of your typical guppy, angelfish, whatever), I bet a lot of the aquarium enthusiasts judging the pictures on that website would see our native fish and go, "Wow, I've never seen that before!" and be interested.

It's easy and free to sign up for the website. I did it no problem. Here's my freshwater fish picture: http://www.ratemyfis...email.php/34768

While I was out of town, this somehow shot up to being ranked #178 out of 1778 planted tanks worldwide http://www.ratemyfis...-main.php/34771

Update: My photo of a male Elassoma gilberti is currently ranked #16 of 6853 freshwater fish worldwide. I think it's the novelty; a lot of people have never seen a pygmy sunfish before, so they see this picture and they're like "What is that?" and then "It's pretty". That's my interpretation, anyway. I hope that posting this photo to ratemyfishtank.com has inspired more people to have interest in native fish.

It would be nice if more people posted photos of their native fish to ratemyfishtank.com, too. Every other fish ranked above mine is a cichlid except for one, which is an arowana. I bet if people saw a really colorful dace or sunfish they'd be like, "Woah, that fish is awesome" and then follow your photo caption link to the NANFA forum to learn more about native fish. :)

Nah, it's more than just that. You've got cool fish and a cool tank. 8-) Congratulations.

Steve.

I would put my tank on there, but It's hard to photo. The tank is so large that it's hard to capture everything in it and still see the individual parts.

Even if you can't do a whole tank photo, you can still post a photo of an individual fish. They are two separate categories.
