POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Job Classification: Undergrad, Graduate or Academic Hourly - Research Program Participant
6 positions available

Position: Mussel Field Technicians, 4 positions based out of Champaign, IL and 2 positions based out of Carbondale, IL

Employer: Division of the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability (INRS), Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS).

Job Description: The principle duty of these positions is to conduct field surveys for freshwater mussels at selected drainage basins throughout Illinois. Field surveys will include hand sampling for mussels and measuring stream habitat. Additional activities may include curation and collections management, data entry, and specimen preparation. Extensive travel and long hours in the field should be expected.

Qualifications: Course work in biology, fisheries, environmental science, or related field is recommended. The candidate must be able to swim, hike to remote sites, travel overnight, and work outside under adverse field conditions (biting insects, leeches, poison ivy, muddy slopes, and in waders). Candidate must have a valid driver's license. Preference will be given to candidates with experience sampling and identifying freshwater mussels.

Salary: $10.00/hour

Available: May 31, 2011-September 30, 2011/ 40 hours per week. The start date will be flexible due to weather conditions or class conflict.
