M.S. Graduate Assistantship – Fish Ecology – Alligator Gar
Location: University of Central Arkansas
Funding: Multiple years
Starting Date: August 15, 2011
Application deadline: Review of applicants begins February 11 until the position is filled.

Description: The student will be part of a collaborative team of researchers from the University of Central Arkansas, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission examining the reproductive ecology and population structure of Alligator Gar in rivers of Arkansas. The successful applicant will spend many rigorous hours sampling adult and larval alligator gar in river floodplain ecosystems. Information about our previous research can be found at www.fws.gov/arkansas-es/A_Gar/. Student thesis topics can evolve from the alligator gar research or other ideas related to large river ecology.

Qualifications: B.S. in Biology, Fisheries Science, Environmental Science, or related fields. Minimum GPA of 3.0 and a combined quantitative/verbal GRE score of 1000. The applicant must have the ability to work independently, operate a boat, enjoy long hours in the field, and work with a team.
