Q :

Are there alternative accommodations?

A :

There are a number of other hotels if you wish to stay at them. The hotel was chosen for convenience as the convention is being held there.
If you wish to camp there is the Roanoke Mountain Campground not that far away.

Q :

What species will we collect/sample in Virginia?

A :

VT maintains a nice website with the Fishes of VA, http://cnre.vt.edu/efish/. We will be near the Roanoke, New, James, and TN drainages.

Q :

Do I need to purchase a VA freshwater fishing license to collect fish?

A :

For the 2011 Convention being held in Roanoke, VA, we are working on obtaining a permit that will cover folks on the field trips. We will have designated field trip leaders listed as sub-permittees. This will allow anyone on those field trips to keep a limited amount of certain species. You will not need a VA freshwater fishing license if this will satisfy your need. If you collect outside of the NANFA field trips, you will be required to have a VA freshwater fishing license.
