I have been gathering info on:

shadow bass
warmouth
snail bullheads

I think that the snail bullhead and the Warmouth are completely compatable

is the shadow bass going to be out competed when it comes to food? I am aware that it probably not eat floating pellets, but are they assertive enough to "hold there own" when it comes to grabbing soft pellets, sinking carnivore pellets, worms, crickets, shrimp, and feeder killies/gambusia? or will they just cower in the corner? thanks

the 75 gal i will put them in is still cycling, I presently do not have room to keep it in its own tank, so i need to think it through before acquisition. So the more info - opinions the better.

I think the odds are with you on all things being fine.

I must say on more than one occasion I've heard of bullhead horror stories...They can get a mean/hungry streak and inflict some serious damage when they want. I'm speaking generally about bullheads and not specifically snail bullheads.

I think the shadow bass and the warmouth are similar enough in temperament for peaceful cohabitation and they should have enough room in a 75.

I'd give it a try and not worry too much.

I'd agree with that, I havn't had shadow bass but I imagine they are similar to rockbass. Both wamouth and Rockbass are similar in behavior in that they eat a tun but don't seem all that overly aggressive or territorial like longears or some of the other lepomis sunfish. They both like to hide though, I would be sure you have plenty of rocks of driftwood to make them feel comfortable this will also keep the bullhead happy. I have kept bullheads with sunfish and as long as they are well fed and similar sized they arn't trouble.

I keep a rock bass and a warmouth together in a 75 along with a couple other fish.

No pics but I'll try and borrow a digital cam and see if I can get some.

I've had the rock bass since July of 2005. I caught it fishing. It's about 7" long.

The warmouth was caught last summer by my brother. It was already large when he caught it but has grown a little since.

I live in NC and game fish can only be collected by hook and line in public waters.Warmouths and rock bass are classifed as game fish.

I feed them nightcrawlers and Tetra carnivorous fish pellets mostly. They love them. Sometimes I will put minnows in the tank as a treat.

I also have a flat bullhead and a Florida gar in the same tank. Yes I know the tank may be overstocked but I can't move the gar right now.

At first the rock bass was bossy and chased the bigger warmouth around but that has totally changed with the warmouth now the bossy fish. Well not really bossy but you can tell he's now the dominant tank inhabitant.

Both of these fish can recognize when I get the carton of pellets out and they wait for them to be thrown into the tank.

They are gluttonous eaters so becareful in feeding too much. Leads to LOTS of waste.

Don't know much about shadow bass and how they compare to their cousin the rock bass.

Just have rock bass where I live.
