It states that elassoma zonatum are in the Wabash River Drainage in Indiana, my question is, how common is it? I am planning a road trip to OH this summer and would LOVE to get my hands on some wildcaught ones, but wasn't sure how common they are in this river system and if they are in the ENTIRE river system, or just certain parts.

Thanks in advance,

Nate

It'll be in the Coastal-Plain-like swampy areas in southernmost Indiana. Not sure what the northern most locales are; some other Coastal Plain critters, like lesser sirens, are scattered pretty far north in Indiana. If you want to find them in numbers, you should probably head south to the Mississippi Embayment proper in southernmost Illinois, Missouri bootheel, and points south.

We are travelling across the northern part of the state, would I be wasting my time even stopping to look?

If E. zonatum is your main target, then yes. I'm sure there are other neat things to be seen in the upper Wabash.
