I think we would all love to see a convention in LA. We just don't have the support from the state as a whole, to take on such a task. I co-hosted a convention a few years ago and it is a full year's worth of work to do it right.

NANFA did actually have a convention in Louisiana, it was in 1997, I think. It was, AFIK, our first national convention, albeit nothing on the scale of what we have today. The modern NANFA convention as we know it was created by Elmer Guerri - that was the Champaign-Urbana con in 1999, and everyone since has more or less followed in his footsteps.

Ahh Louisiana my home state. I live in Ooltewah Tennessee now. But when I visit home in Lafayette Louisiana I marvel at the species available there. Such tropical looking species like the golden top-minnow and sail fin molly etc etc. I like it there but only to visit. I suppose I could live there again but I married a Beautiful Canadian lady and she cannot take the heat of the south. This is the best compromise we could come up with here in Tennessee near Chattanooga. I love it here but I hate winters. The winter here is far from harsh and very short but I still do not like it. Florida Keys would suit me fine. I lived in Oshawa Ontario Canada for almost six years and I woke up one night and said to my self what the H--- am I doing living in this freezer. So it was then we started making plans for a southern migration.
Would be nice to have a convention in Louisiana. Especially if it was south Louisiana. I have free room and board there and the species list as I mentioned is awesome. [-o<
