Some Quilback I caught today. I caught 2 in 2 different trawls. First ones I have ever seen in person.

Awesome catch. Quillback are definately undersampled and reported in the region. That first one in your hand would have been a perfect voucher specimen. We've been unable to get anything that small for a few years now.

wish we had this conversation before that trawl then. He didn't make it. I should check our permits to see if it would allow us to preserve some specimens when they do not make it.

do you happen to know if these guys are intolerant of low O2 conditions? I am trying to figure out if I can keep this guys alive onboard our boat long enough to show the kids, or if I should return them to the water right away.
