I caught quite a few large bull males that evening and I was impressed with how large the opercular flap was on each one. Here's a picture of a female bluegill that I caught for comparison;

I was cleaning out an old folder on my desktop and I came across this picture of a bluegill that I caught on while fly fishing a small farm pond around this time last year (I need to clean out my folders more often than once a year);
I caught quite a few large bull males that evening and I was impressed with how large the opercular flap was on each one. Here's a picture of a female bluegill that I caught for comparison;

beautiful fish! That's why I have 2 blugills in my 75 gallon. They look so cool when they get older. Mine aren't that old or big yet.
