I found on aquabid an auction from a seller in MI selling the invasive round goby. What are the laws in MI regarding invasive fish and the posession of them? I was browsing the MI DNR website and didn't/couldn't find anything. Anyone's help here would be great as this fish really should be kept nor be sold to anyone!

Thank you, I had no clue where to go with this, it just really frightened me with the idea of these fish being sold to what could be ANYWHERE in the US. It's bad enough we have them!

I contacted Mark at Aquabid to see if he'd take down the post. It is gone this morning...

i wasn't sure if it had to stay listed for them to actually persure the person? There was someone last year who was selling bullhead fry caught in the milwaukee river. I sent them an email asking if they had permits to collect the fish and said no...

If they want to pursue it, they will have to contact Aquabid. It is probably better that the auction was taken offline to prevent the sale/transfer. The seller may just be ignorant to the laws and regulations and hopefully now they know.

That's probably true but I've been in a couple situations where I tried to inform folks on another board that what they were doing was illegal and I was told to basically **** off. It's amazing how stupid some people are. How you can think you can get away with something illegal on the Internet is beyond me.

To be clear, in those particular cases it wasn't invasive species and they weren't live but they were attempting to sell deceased game fish caught from public waters. There are some exceptions of course with permits, but in most states it's prohibited. I sell fish from my private facility complete with a paper trail and apparently they thought I was trying to head off potential competition. Interestingly Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Alabama game fish can not be sold even from my private facility except for stocking. As far as I'm concerned it's nothing more than trade protectionism.
