Hello all, great forum you guys have here. So here's the deal... I have been an avid cichlid keeper for the last 20 years. It occurred to me in recent months that maybe there were some cool fish right in my own backyard so I started looking into native fish. I am quite impressed with the darters and sculpin and I think I may start a couple of native tanks. I am sure I will be hanging around asking you guys all sorts of "noob" questions. Please bare with me as I learn this new area of fish-keeping. Later.

Welcome scottsquatch.

Don't worry about asking "noob" questions. I think everyone here remembers how they felt when first started with native fishes. Still many differing ideas on captive care of natives but a 20 year background with fish will help greatly. I think you'll find native and tropical fish care is quite similar.

I had a gazillion "noob" questions when I started. My first little collection even mostly died! There are some really great people here who gave me lots of guidance. Don't be afraid to just ask!

Been there done that...actually it was pretty recently. Not much to native fish really. Just different species and they are alot easier to get. I got a hang of it pretty quickly and am actually planning on going on a couple of collecting trips with a bunch of people from here. Get into some if you can. Its a great hobby.

One more thing...You are going to be told to put your location in. It is very helpful on this website. And be kind of specific.

Duluth, Minnesota. All the way up north there. I was up there about 5 years ago. Drove through on the way to Leech Lake and Lake Winnebigosh...great Walleye fishing and I caught a big old Black Crappie. Welcome to the site.
