Hey guys! I am Alex, a 23 year old carpenter/builder from Rhode Island. I have been keeping fish For a good portion of my early teen years up until now although I am just (finally) getting in to natives. I have done the research on keeping these fish and with my tropical fish experience, I am ready to go and hopefully I can share some of my eperience with others here on the forum. I have wanted to get in to natives for quite a while but wasn't willing to get rid of the fish I had. Well, last year I had to shut down my tanks but now am in a position to start over. What better time to start with natives!? The plan is to start with 2-4 40 gallon breeder tanks and upgrade to 2 125s or a 125 and a 220 not this coming up winter, but the following. The plan is to do at least one cold water and one warm water tank. I plan on doing all of the collecting myself with the exception of trout which will be bought from a hatchery up in New Hampshire. Is there anyone else in this area that would like to get out one weekend soon to do some sampling/collecting? Would love to meet up! Thanks guys, look forward to my time spent here on the forums and out on the water! By the way, I am an avid fishermen from 6" native brook trout, to 8' blue shark and tuna. I both fly fish and also use conventional rods.

Welcome to the NANFA forum. Don't forget to check out the NANFA website as well (see the NANFA Homepage link in the upper left corner here). Maybe even considering joining NANFA.

You will find lots of valuable information both here and on the webpage... and I think there are some other members up your way! And I am really glad that you are planning to get out in teh habitat to see your own native fishes!

Thanks Michael! I have already checked out the site and do plan on becoming a member in the near future. I added a couple of the local members to my friends list and hope at some point they will be willing to meet up with me. All of my free time is spent on the waters of this state. Fishing is what started my craving for native fish, I love and appreciate our fishery more than most of the people I know and am looking forward to bringing a small part of it in to my home to enjoy. A couple native tanks beside my fly tying desk will be SWEET.
