Today I was fishing in the North Fork of the Elkhorn Creek in Central Kentucky. In a pool where the water was still I caught two Crappie. Both appeared to be black crappie, however, one of them had a black line straight down its back that ended at the dorsal fin. it was a fairly thick line. Does anyone have any idea what this is? Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me so I don't have a picture. thanks for your help.

You may have caught what is known as an Arkansas Blacknose. Just a rare variation of crappie colouring, Google it.
