Thought this was a russetfin topminnow but I'm not so sure. Was about 2" long. Caught in a slackwater area with heavy vegetation alongside l.ommata, h.formosa, gambusia. Caught a few other killies in the area, can't remember the name at the moment but they were a plain silver with a little bit of red on the face and a dark teardrop.

Sure looks like Fundulus cingulatus to me. Possibly F. rubrifrons, but I don't know enough about distinguishing the two. The other fish you describe could either be F. escambiae (eastern starhead topminnow). The Gumbusia holbrooki will also have this teardrop.

I would have to go with Fundulus cingulatus as well. I doubt it's F. rubrifrons, but I'm told that certain populations of rubrifrons resemble cingulatus.

Where did you collect it? Peterson's lists the range of each species.

Yeah I was thinking of escambiae, not sure how I forgot that one since I grew up in escambia county.

After looking at the peterson guide it looks like it is definitely a F.cingulatus. F.rubifrons is way east of here, I'm in the northwest corner of the florida panhandle.

Thanks guys!
