Subject: Roanoke bass sampling (electro-fishing)

Hello all, I am looking for volunteers for the weeks of October 24th and October 31st to sample Roanoke bass in the Eno River. Please let me know if you are available any of those days. As always I need about 4 volunteers a day to run the machinery safely.

Thanks,

Corey Oakley | District 5 Fisheries Biologist | Certified Fisheries Professional
Division of Inland Fisheries | North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission

>> Note from Gerald: Eno River is in Durham and Orange Counties, NC, in Neuse River basin. Besides the Roanoke Rockbass you'll likely see Roanoke, Chainback, Glassy darters, White and Pinewood shiners, Bluehead and Bull chubs, Blacktip jumprock, Flat bullhead, lots of other Neuse natives. Maybe even Neuse waterdog!

I'd love to help, but not shure if I can swing it right now.

It's a little bit of a longshot but I will keep it in mind and let you know if I can come down one of those days.

Here's ANOTHER NC-WRC Biologist looking for shocker sampling volunteers in Oct-Nov.
This will be boat-shocking mainly for bass and sunfish in bigger rivers (Tar, Neuse, White Oak, NE Cape Fear), not wading in the river.

Hello all,
>
>With the oxygen starting to recover in some of our rivers and water
>temperatures dropping I was hoping to start some sampling this
>fall. Since we haven't filled the Bio I job for the district, I'm
>going to need some help. My plan was to start around the first week
>of October and sample for largemouth bass and sunfish on the Tar
>River (between Greenville and Washington), the Neuse River (between
>Kinston and New Bern), and the White Oak River (east of Maysville in
>Jones County). I might try to get to the New and NE Cape Fear as
>well depending on how things go. All of this work will be on the
>electrofishing boat and I'll be as flexible as possible as far as
>meeting up with folks. The only two days I have booked up in
>October so far are the 25 and 27 but other than that I'm open to
>sample any day of the month and on into November if water
>temperatures are warm enough. There also might be an opportunity to
>sample striped bass around New Bern this fall depending on water
>temperature and salinity. So if you are so inclined to leave the
>deer stand this fall and get on a shocking boat for a day, please
>let me know. Please pass this along to anyone you think might be
>interested (students included) and have them contact me for more
>information. Thanks a bunch for the help!
