Description of Work
This position is located within the Natural Resources Program for the
NC State Parks system and will be headquartered at either Cliffs of
the Neuse SP (Goldsboro/Wayne county) or Carolina Beach SP
(Wilmington/New Hanover County). It is responsible for the inventory
and stewardship of park natural resources. This includes the
implementation and coordination of appropriate biological and cultural
resource inventories of park properties; planning and implementation
of state park stewardship projects including prescribed burning,
ecological restoration, and invasive species control; and review of
state park construction plans and field inspection of capital project
sites. This position researches and evaluates resource management
problems in the parks, recommends solutions, and prepares
environmental documentation, resource management plans, and inventory
reports. The position also participates in the general management
planning and master planning processes for the state parks, providing
input on protection and management needs for natural and cultural
resources. This position is located in the coastal region of NC with
responsibility for state park

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of the natural sciences (biology, hydrology, soils,
etc) with more specific knowledge of southeast US ecosystems, flora
and fauna. Ability to collect (including design of sampling regimes),
review and interpret scientific data. Understanding of management of
natural resource- based parks, natural areas, and nature preserves.
Knowledge of personal computer use with proficiency in word
processing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with division personnel, representatives of other
government agencies, environmental groups, park support groups, the
general public, and park neighbors. Excellent written and oral
communication skills. Must possess the ability to work independently
and with multi-phase projects. Applicant must possess and maintain a
valid NCdriver's license and meet DENR Fleet Safety Policy guidelines.

Training and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a four year college or university with a major in one
of the agriculture, biological, engineering, environmental, natural
resources sciences or closely related curriculum and one year of
experience that provides the employee with the functional work
experiences needed to perform the work of the vacancy; or an
equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the
employee functional work experiences needed to perform the work of the
position. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
