Hello all,
Just wondering if the Drylok would be safe to use in a tank. My idea is to create a native streambank paludarium using one of those fancy terrarium tanks with the sliding doors in front. I would like to create the stream bank from polystyrene foam painted with Drylok latex masonry waterproofer. Would this be safe ?

I know of several backgrounds made in this manner, specifically using the latex Drylok. I don't remember if it's totally inert once set, but i've seen it used long term setups with many different species with no ill effects. I can't speak for the oil-based Drylok.

I currently have a tank with a homemade background using it and so far, no ill effects. I don't know about long term but I would imagine if there were any problems with it it would have shown up by now.

Thanks for the info guys. I made a turtle ramp for my 75 from the foam and Drylok and so far no ill effects.

Hrm, I hope you're putting it on thick. Turtles scratch foam backgrounds up pretty bad, often breaking through drylok in a short time.
