I don't know, sometimes they overwhelm the net and scare the other fish.

It was released alive? It's so bloody... What's the survival rate of the fish released back to the water after such treatment?

And what's up with the dead ones in the bucket?

Most gar live. They are super tough. That was my blood anyway.

The ones in the fish basket are live and waiting to be weighed. They were released alive.

Whoa dude I was just thinking about your posts the other day wondering if you'd ever be back. We've been lacking in good pictures from that neck of the woods. Welcome back.

Just reminiscing. The forum started only 20 days before you joined. 5.5 years. Time flies.

That is a great gar. Was it net caught or hook? I hope brook lamprey stops by to see it.

It was in a 750 foot trammel net and we had an 88 pound one caught in the same place yesterday.

Here is weird fish caught by hand near grand isle last year.

I am a marine fisheries biologist with ldwf working in the Barataria estuary and part of the western delta of the Mississippi river.

Now I get to play in the water 3-4 days a week.
