So does some rainbow trouts have red marks below the throat? Caught a stocked rainbow trout out of Taylor Lake in Minnesota that has red marks on its throat but the red marks are not big compared to pure cutthroat trouts. Now I know there are no cutthroat trouts in Minnesota but now I am confused as hell. I wish I take a picture on this trout but I ate it.

I should be clear on this subject. Does the rainbow trout has red marks on the throat? I'm so confused as both cutthroats and rainbows come in different color variations.

I caught a trout that has red marks on its throat but I am awared that there are no cutthroats in Minnesota and the lake only has brookies and bows.

I am no trout expert, but I did find this dichotomous key: http://www.fws.gov/n...us_fish_key.pdf
It says that rainbow trout do not have any orange or reddish spots on their body.

could it be a hybrid brook/rainbow? (think it is called a tiger trout??) http://www.bouldermo...Trout-640-W.jpg

I know nothing about trout other than they are fun to watch and I cannot catch them.. LOL

Nah tiger trout is a hybrid between brown trout and brook trout and there are no brown/tiger trout in Taylor Lake. Also I should noted that there are no natural reproduction of rainbow trout in Taylor Lake....so all rainbow trout are hatchery trout. I am try find some good website for how to ID a trout but so far only trout that has red marks on throat is either a cutthroat or a cutbow.

They don't included cutthroat trout in the dichotomous key, just let you know.

The last cutbow trout picture in that link, looks like much same to my trout but I can't rule them out as there are no cutthroats or cutbows being stocked in Minnesota (unless I am not awared of it). So it must be a rainbow trout with odd colors?
