I've never had any success with plants either, but it's something I'd like to add to my tank.

Don't have much time to write, but I just have to say that your pictures are awesome! Well done!

The java moss I have in the tank grows slowly (yet for everyone else it seems to grow like crazy) and I love moss but it catches a lot of stuff, so it can start to look ugly. The vals are actually not dying for the most part. Might even be putting out a few new ones. I run DIY CO2, probably doesn't work too well on a tank that size, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I have a few pieces of frogbit on top too and some of them are starting to put out some new ones. Slowly but surely I'll get the hang of plants, I hope.

I took a look in the tank last night, and my large whitefin shiner was starting to show some spawning characteristics I think. He's the only adult I have in the tank, I'm going to be getting him some friends soon though. Here's a pic. You can see the tips of the caudal fin are white, the anal fin and the dorsal fin both have some metallic/white/yellow color to them, and his head has tubercles on it. All of this just showed up yesterday. Nothing's changed in the tank except for the addition of a couple young bluehead chubs. Tank is still right around 66 degrees F. But anyway, here's the pic.

You're in for a real treat as his color and fins develop further. Breeding male nivea are spectacular.
Unfortunately, his tankmates are in for holy terror. I hope its a big tank.

I'll "ditto" that as I had a group of them and the dominant male made life hell for the rest of them.

Just checked out your webcam and I love it. I have a question though - Is your black banded sunfish in that tank? I looked but couldn't find him.

The blackbanded sunfish are in a different tank. They have a tank to themselves. Perhaps I'll switch the cam to their tank every once in awhile.

Any pic of breeding male nivea?
