Yes, fish is a broad term. I have kept and bred a broad range of fish. I agree that variety of food is always best. And feeding in smaller amounts muliple times a day is better than one large amount daily. But then that wasn't my point. I was not telling anyone they had to do this just what I do and the reasoning behind it trying to help Andrew and his concern for his "fatter" fish. Are there exceptions? Possibly, but I can't think of any.

In nature food availabilty fluctuates due to many variables like seasonal change, weather, human intervention, etc. I contend not only is it normal for fish to not eat constantly but it is actually healthy for them. When I chill my native fish they eat 3 times a week and sometimes leave food. When temps start to warm up so does their metabolism and feeding frequincy/amount increases because I want them to be in condition to breed. When the barometer drops I usually add a bit more food. I figure in nature when that happens it signals rain and more food gets stirred up. An absolute? No. A Probability? I think so.

I too have Elassoma and I skip a day of feeding those also. It certainly isn't detrimental to the fish, they're all quite healthy and breeding.
