We are obviously very limited in the UK regarding availability, so apologies if everyone has seen pics like this a thousand times. I've posted these on a couple of UK forums and had pleasing responses. I keep harping on about these fish over here, I think I'm starting to bore people-tough, I'll carry on until they learn something!

Yellowfin & Rainbow Shiners in breeding dress. I, very roughly, fashioned some small rocks into what I imagined a Chub nest might look like and within 48 hours the Rainbows had spawned over the site. I missed the actual event but hoovered up dead eggs some days later. Then the Yellowfins coloured up, haven't seen any signs of actual action with them yet but here's hoping.

These pics taken on a simple point 'n' shoot. Thanks for looking.

Do you happen to have a picture of the nest that you could post here? The only version I've seen is with a glass pie container filled with pea gravel.

Very nice Mark! Rainbows are great, but love yellowfins... Yours may not have spawned yet... They get even redder when they ready.

But beautiful fish, and nice chub nest... Obviously the shiners think so.

Thanks all, much obliged.

Erica, the 'nest' is right there in the topmost pic. I literally just threw some variously sized (but not too big) rocks/pebbles etc into a very rough slightly oval shape, nothing scientific, I don't even really know what a Chub nest would look like other than it's constructed from the same materials. I never expected the reaction it triggered. Maybe they just went for something that wasn't there before, but it seems to have worked-they've spawned twice within the last six weeks. I know of two 'keepers over here who have bred with the pie dish technique, it seems a reliable way of collecting viable eggs and one I hope to use in the future.
