A full-time research technician is required to support an active field- and laboratory-based research
program in Marine Ecology and Conservation at North Carolina State University led by Dr. David
Eggleston (www.eggleston.cmast.ncsu.edu). Position can begin April 2012.
Duties will include day-to-day management of research program, helping to train and assist students,
data management and analysis, planning and participation in field research and laboratory
experiments, and running computer simulations of larval dispersal. Candidate should have a B.S. in a
Natural Science (M.S. degree preferred) and at least 2 years experience in managing a field- and
laboratory-based marine biology/ecology program, experience conducting statistical analyses of data,
illustrating data with graphical programs, and interpreting and communicating results in written and
verbal forms. Preferred experience includes: benthic sampling techniques and sample preservation,
field research planning and shipboard operations, familiarity with statistical and graphics software,
data analysis skills, SCUBA certification, and small boat handling and trailering. Must be able to
work independently, be a self-starter, and have strong critical thinking and communications skills.
Must be able to travel 8-10 weeks during the year.
Salary is $46,161/year and includes state health care and retirement benefits.
This is a time-limited appointment of 12 months with possible renewal based on performance and
availability of funding.
