Actually yes, it appears he is a local in Ringgold... so only a few river miles upstream (south, but upstream, go figure) from the snorkelmeister.

That is the same fella, both boy and Hellbender. I thought i posted this to the forum recently? Probably imbedded in another posting. Anyway he was caught on a chicken liver about 3.5 miles upstream of my house. There is a mill and dam there, and the mill owner generates electricity from the i reckon 6' or 10' dam. I understand that the Bender was caught just upstream of the dam in the reservoir.
Last month David Headrick of the Chattanooga Zoo gave a presentation to the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway Alliance on their work with Benders. Lee University up in Collegedale, just north of Chattanooga, is also doing work with them. David and crew are building a neat circulating system to house, breed and raise Hellbenders in, pretty cool. I assembled the graphics for the SCCGA presentation and may post a few here later. Next week i am doing a image and video presentation to the same group on the Fishes of South Chickamauga Creek.
I know they have looked for Hellbenders the last few years behind my house, but that is and has been an unlikely success. There are no large flat rocks and most of the rocks are cemented in place from the constant erosion coming in from Georgia development. Lots of places to explore though... there may be a nice trib feeding South Chick that i am unaware of near the dam. If it has a reducing population of Hellbenders it may have some rare fish as well. i have never stood at the base of the dam as No Trespassing signs are posted. Gonna have to take a look and sky google. Canoing or floating from the dam to my home would be interesting.

I'd love to catch a hellbender, a siren or a mudpuppy.
Here in the NJ though this is about the biggest salamander I'm going to catch and when I caught my first one last year I was thrilled
