Ok, I have been haunting this sight nightly for a few weeks now and I am really fascinated at all the info this forum has to offer. I had already decided to "go native" when I came back to this site, (I originally stumbled upon it a few years ago) but now I am more excited than ever. Here's the thing though, I need help from other native fishkeepers in Minnesota to give me some tips and pointers as to good collecting locations and techniques. I am looking forward to collecting, but as with all hobbies and interests, it is always a lot more fun when you can interact with other like-minded people. I live in Cloquet which is basically just outside of Duluth, but I would be willing to travel a couple hours in order to meet and collect with other native fish nuts. So....anybody around here can feel free to reply and we can make some plans. The streams around here are open and now most of the lakes are too. Collecting is right around the corner. Thanks to all who reply and lets hope we can set up a collecting trip.

I live in the deep south... of Minnesota! So arranging something may be a challenge. What if we found a location, fairly central in MN, and did one big trip for all of the MN NANFans. Anyone from the surrounding states would be welcome to come too!

PS, admin, probably move this to one of the Regional Outreach Forums.

I guess I didn't realize that this would actually have a chance of turning into an event. Are there a lot of nanfa people here in Minesota that you know of? I have talked to a lot of cichlid keepers that I know and nobody is interested in going collecting with me. As for the regional outreach section of the the forum, I guess that would be a good idea to move this post over there. Thats one part of the forum I haven't really checked out yet. I guess I should have, so I apologize to whatever admin person has to move this thread. Anyway, yeah, lets get some folks together and do some collecting. Later.

Well, I know of maybe 5 on here, but apparently there are quite a few at MN Aquarium Society or whatever it's called. There are another 5-10 on here from Iowa, plus 3 or so from Wisconsin. I think we'd be able to get a pretty decent group together. Also, the MN Aquarium Society used to get a license once a year so that they could legally collect Darters, Shiners, Dace, and other non-game fish. That would surely be worth looking into.

You should track down Konrad Schmidt who works for the state of Minnesota in some arm of the fish & wildlife agency. He's been in NANFA a long time and may be able to help you. I don't think he's on the Forum much if ever.

You could also go to the NANFA Web page below... scroll down until you see Minnesota and contact your regional rep...

Thanks Bruce and Michael. I will be sure to try and track down Mr. Schmidt and I am going to see who my regional rep is right now. BTW I am going to get a nanfa membership tommorrow. I am really liking the way all you native fish nuts stick together. Thanks again gentleman and happy collecting.
