Okay, how you can see that? Can you give me a short explanation?
Knut:-)

definitively banded... what I see is an overall longer looking fish (not as stubby as everglades or okefenokee)... also the obvious dark band separated by the lighter spaces (hence the name), the other pygmies are never this obviously banded... then I see the over all specked nature of the face (and really the whole body in this individual) and fins... and the teardrop line which is often more pronounced but is present in this individual.

Would you mind donating a photo to our Elassoma ID section? There are not currently any photos posted for Elassoma zonatum. If you agree to donate one you can post it here or send it in a private message to Drew. I think Drew might be the only one who can add photos to the ID page; I unfortunately can not.

I think what they're looking for in an ID photo is a photo of the fish taken from the side that shows its entire body.

I'm going to go further and guess it's a zonatum from the Gulf river drainages, not an Atlantic slope zonatum, based on the heavy speckled pattern. Does your friend know where in America it was caught? He looks very well fed!

Another zonatum characteristic is the dark stripe extending backward behind the eye, sometimes forming a dark blotch where it intersects the vertical bars. (The stripe and blotch can appear or disappear according to mood).

Beautiful specimen. I have some that look pretty similar, have a look at this thread for comparison.

Thanks for all the Information.
The guy I got them from is from Florida. But i don´t know where the fish is exactly from.
Yes, them well feed. Them get Moskitolarvaes right now. And them started to mate the last days.
To donate a picture is possible. I will contact Erica Wieser.
