I went out today to see what I could find in this cold weather. After reading some topics on here about collecting in the winter I aimed for banks and leaf piles. But I didn't have much success but I blame the net, I couldn't find my dip net so I had to use a make shift one person seine net of sorts. So I never had a good chance to begin with, but I'm going to try and track down a new dip net. But I took some pics of the area that I was in today. It's primarly freshwater but is only about 30 feet from the ocean. Hopefully these pics post.

Tha'ts the small outlet of the pool into the ocean.

Here's the pool itself. I just worked along the edges and up stream a bit.

I'm not familiar with catching most the species that you have there, but for solo sampling and collecting I generally have success with a minnow trap in streams that size. I have caught sticklebacks but they would have been brook sticklebacks. Nice pic.s Looks like a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing.

I don't have a minnow trap but would love to get one. I don't have any idea where though. I have made homemade ones out of 2 litre pop bottles with zero luck, but I am thinking that's because it's winter.

Does that pond freeze solid to the bottom during the winter?

No, the pond does not freeze to the bottom. Actually it only even freezes in the shallow small coves of the pond, but only about 2-3 inches of ice. Because it is always flowing at a good ratre and so close to the ocean it stays open all year for the most part.
Thanks for the links, Once I travel for work I'll order the minnow trap while I'm gone so it will be here when I get back home. I might be able to round up a good minnow net here in one of the local outdoor stores. So if I can pick something up this weekend I'll make my way down to that pool and give it an actual decent try. There are some nice banks that go in a foot or more, so I know there got to be fish underneath there for the winter.

Went again today to the same place but yet again zero luck. I got the dip nets right in under those carved out banks but came up woth nothing. I noticed that there was a Otter around the area, so he might have some fish spooked, not sure. I went to a couple of more locations but still no luck. I took some pics of the day.

Same place as the other day but a bit further upstream.
