Advertised as wild caught? It shouldn't be hard to get such a strain in a few generations of captive breeding on a commercial scale, but it seems unlikely that a wild population with those colors would have a high survival rate.

I'd believe it. I saw this video of wild swordtails with males with a bright orange stripe:

They seem to survive pretty well in the wild even with that orange on them.
There's some sort of darter in the video at 0:14

Nice video but anyone notice the shortage of females in it?

Do the wild platies live on eating algae? It seemed they were intent to clean it off the rocks.

The P. latipinna pictured in Fritz's Freshwater Fishes of SC book has a bright yellow-orange face. The photo is by Noel Burkhead of FL so I'm guessing its probably a FL specimen. The few mollies I've seen in the Carolinas dont have much face color.

They're pretty omnivorous. They eat what's available.

Erica, those platies look great, so much better then what you get in a normal pet shop. I have some petshop "variatus" that are outside right now in tubs and I hope that I can get some wild variatus stock to mix back in and see what happens.
