Hi

I have only one year living in USA so I'm really new to native fish, I'm setting up a 55 gal tank, and on Saturday I went on an expedition to little econoclkatche river here in Orlando. I went to J Blanchard Park and scouted the lake after the dam (for fishing options) and walked down river. I found really nice pieces of driftwood and rocks and saw a lot of fishes in the river (juvenile perch's, bass, bluegills, minnows, darters) also some baby gators. But one thing catch my attention is that there are hundreds of giant pleco style fishes, a lot of them, are they native? or just invasive and came from unconscious release?

Attached is a picture you can see 2 of them.

Thanks

No, there is nothing 'pleco-like' that is native to Florida... but I am sure that you are seeing them down there.

Yes, unfortunately South and Central Florida have many invasive species. Pterygoplichthys multiradiatus and Hoplosternum littorale are two large tropical catfish introduced to FL; you might be seeing one or both of them.

Catfish of that size/shape in Florida are most definitely Pterygoplichthys
