The top pics are probably a species of Tilapia and the bottom pics look more like Lepomis of some flavor.

Our first trip report from Disney World. Never thought of sampling there. What's your next stop, a Chinese Restaurant? :D

I have some pics from the Caribean Beach Resort that I took my family to last year. Tons of sunfish of various species and some very nice sized channel cats and largemouth bass. I did see some fry at the waters edge and was very tempted to grab my scoop net.

Oh yes, I'm just giving you a hard time.

Good one, Gerald. Gotta love Gary Larson.

I'm familiar with that pond at Epcot and I think the first one is a Oreochromis and invasive for sure. It looks like Oreochromis mossambicus (Mozambique Cichlid) or Oreochromis aureus (Blue Tilapia). I agree with the consensus on the second one. Disney has huge common Plecos all through those concrete canals all over their properties.

Just as a heads up, disney will not allow you to sample/collect on their properties.. Tried it 3 years ago.

I told my Wife that I thought they were talapia. Mean while in Epcot's greenhouse attraction, they had another variety of talapia in tanks. The ones in the lake were looking for handouts and as you see in the pic, groups would follow you as you walked. I'm sure they eat alot of popcorn and spit. LOL

NVCiclids, lets hear more........

When I went there for my honeymoon I was planning on taking my nets. I called ahead and asked where on the grounds I could use my nets (already had the fishing license.) They stated that no where on disney grounds could one net/sample/seine/trap fish. You can fish for them with a rod and reel, but no collecting. I didn't believe that person and asked for something in writing and they said they would mail me a letter (do not have it anymore.) They encourage their "day excusions" for fishing, but you cannot do what we love to do. I am going back in september and am going to try again, but I might have to rent a a car and go off on my own for a day. I did this last time (well took a bus off disney grounds and sampled a small stream), but I really wish you could on grounds as I saw several nano species (probably elassomas and h formosas in the shoreline grass/weeds.
