Hope this is the right place to post this...
They're promoting this as a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity for behind the scenes tours of the state fish hatchery in New Jersey.
I cut and pasted the following from the website:

The Hackettstown Hatchery Centennial Celebration
June 2 & 3, 2012 10am - 5pm

To celebrate the hatchery's centennial, the facility will open its normally closed gates to the public for a once-in-a-lifetime, hands-on, family fun special event. This will be the only time visitors may see the inside workings of the fish hatchery and learn how thousands of warm water and cool water fish are raised, fish which have provided some of the best fishing in the nation.

Visitors can expect to enjoy the following:

Hatchery Tours
Fisheries Equipment Demonstrations
Giant Mobile Aquarium
Fishing in Two Fishing Education Ponds
Kiddie Fishing Tank
Birding Hikes
Historic Exhibits
Demonstrations from Muskie Fishing to Turkey Calling to Live Snakes and Everything In Between!
Over 50 vendors!
MORE!

I might have to check this out. Thanks for posting it. Another NJ Nanfa member, where have you been hiding?

Hi David,
Sorry for the delay in replying, I'm new to the forum and still learning my way around.
I'm also new to NANFA - just got back into the aquarium hobby about 2 years ago. I've rediscovered how much I enjoy natives after going on a few sampling / collecting trips with NJAS.
My daughter and I will probably be going to the hatchery on Sat. June 2nd - it would be great to see other NANFA members there.

My wife is off that weekend, I may just have to talk her into going.

We had a great time at this event yesterday. It's on again today if you can make it - well worth the trip.
The facility is wide open to the public with plenty of very knowledgeable fish and game staff on hand.

I made it up there Saturday but due to events beyond my control (wife mostly) we didn't get up there until 3:30 when everything was winding down. It is was still real cool seeing all those baby muskie's and pike. yes it was very tempting to hand grab a couple of put them in a water bottle lol.

I was impressed with the stocking density in the big indoor tubs. I guess it's only possible because they have the springs for a flow through water system and the ability to inject oxygen.
David, did you get a chance to talk to the "NJ Snake Man"? Among others, he had a native NJ water snake on display. Interesting behavior - they will catch a fish under water and take it back to shore to swallow. I think you said you were interested in observing rattlesnake habitat - he says there's healthy populations in NJ on the Appalachian trail. Website is http://www.njsnakeman.com
