This is from the Buffalo River in Northwest Arkansas. I do not have experience identifying Bass at this size (a little less than 1"). I am assuming that it is probably a Smallmouth since they are the predominant Bass I see at this sight, but Largemouth and Spotted are also possibilities. Do any of the normal characteristics like mouth size and dorsal fin notch hold true at this size? Does anyone have any tips for identifying Bass of this size? Thanks!

Smallmouth and spotted can both exhibit parr marks (yours has) and both exhibit tricolored tail (too young to show). When small the smallmouth seems to have a much larger mouth than similar sized spotted. Gut feeling says smallmouth.

Thanks for the help Centrarchid. I'm sure you're right since Spotted are very uncommon in this stream.
